Exporting

#2 InVideo

Ease of use

InVideo online editor features a good number of tools for quick and easy video making. The rich collection of thousands of ready-to-use templates is probably their best bet. Plus, there are a lot of pretty cool elements like stickers, vector shapes, and masks that can broaden up your creativity horizons and enrich the appearance of your video projects.

Stock Library

InVideo’s pricing page states that paid users get access to 3M+ media library, though the trial version offers to browse the stock library of 1M images and videos. This number seems to include premium assets, thus free stock footage is unlikely to be InVideo’s strongest suit.

Exporting

The free version allows downloading your video in 720p resolution. Plus, it’s watermarked with the InVideo logo.

Direct sharing works for Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Plus, you can generate a preview link to show your project to your teammates.

Video formats

All templates come in the 3 most popular formats: vertical, wide, and square. Once you start editing the template, you can’t switch between the formats.

Customization

Before you get to editing, InVideo suggests setting up your brand first. It includes adding your brand colors, company name and logo to the preset. These elements will be available for you in the editing dashboard so that you can instantly apply your brand elements.

Pricing Plans

The free account won’t allow you to crate a video that you can really use due to the watermark. The paid options start at $20/month which’s quite reasonable for the number of options to be unlocked.

#3 Renderforest

Ease of Use

RenderForest wowed us with their step-by-step tutorial, making getting familiar with their features an absolute breeze. The templates page was a little lacking, if only in direction. The prompts they have are beautifully rendered and intricate, but that isn’t helpful when it’s difficult to use different categories, etc. You also cannot create something from scratch from what we saw, so that’s a tad troubling.

 

Stock Library

Renderforest boasts access to “115.000 + Royalty free Stock Footage” but as free/trial users, couldn’t find access to even a library to browse what they offer.

Exporting

You can only export to YouTube or Facebook directly. You can also download the video to your computer with accompanying watermarks.

Video Formats

No video formats are supported, but you can download your project to your computer and render it how you prefer.

Customization

In the themes that we cycled through, we could only change the text and basic coloring of the effects. We find that the lack of customization may be attributed to the graphics Renderforest creates. This maintains Renderforest’s integrity of the graphics without sacrificing quality.

Pricing Plans

Renderforest has a little too much going on in their pricing department, if only because it reduces simplicity in choosing a plan that is right for you. On the upside, there is enough flexibility there for everybody. They do accept custom plans, but we find this leads to inconsistent pricing. With their advanced graphics, custom pricing (despite varied feedback, we think this makes companies happy), and massive stock library, we’ve chosen Renderforest as #2 on our list.

#4 Adobe Spark

Adobe Spark provides users with a couple of sophisticated tools. You can create customized graphics, web pages, and videos. We find that this is a fairly advanced tool, despite the ease of choosing templates.

There is also compatibility with educational programs, but we will be focusing on Spark for businesses & creating videos for this list. Feel free to check out their other products and tell us what you think of their take on an online video maker!

Ease of Use

Spark comes with tons of jam-packed templates. Their videos do a great job of inspiring thought and sparking (ha…) originality, but they can only be 30 seconds long.

Stock Library

Adobe Spark has access to something called Adobe Stock, which is royalty-free pictures provided by Adobe. When using them, there is are visible watermarks.

Exporting

Our experience with exporting videos was quite a hassle with Spark. Unfortunately, you couldn’t download your project immediately, and doing so took time for the application to compress the images and transitions. We were puzzled since we made a basic video with a singular music track.

Video Formats

There are two formats available for use: landscape and square. We assume (since exact ratios were not given) that the ratios are 16:9 and 1:1.

Customization

Adobe Spark does wonders with their pre-set templates, and they’re geared towards optimizing their videos, graphics, and websites to match your exact flavor, style, necessary niche. Spark is one of the best tools to use in order to customize branding, but the downside is you must upgrade to a plan in order to do so.

Pricing Plans

The pricing for Adobe Spark gets tricky. If you’re a small business, you don’t need to think much about this. You can just use the individual plan, and it saves you the hassle of having to pay for every license you create for individual brands. Because Spark has advanced graphics and a high customizability feature, we felt it was apt to place it at #3 on our list. Their pricing is a major con.

#5 Animoto

Animoto has two services: Animoto Memories and Animoto Marketing. The former is used for more personalized social media or familial events, so we’ll be focusing on Animoto Marketing.

Ease of Use

Animoto prompts you to use two tutorials for either product, pictured above. They’re in-depth and easy to follow. Furthermore, when creating anything for the first time, they give you the option to follow them “step-by-step” as you create your first Business or Personal project.

Stock Library

It seems as though Animoto only offers a music library and templated stories. You can trim these down, but ultimately you’d have to add in the original content you’ve either shot yourself or bought/downloaded obtained elsewhere. This means you’d often have trouble with licensing your non-original content, instead of paying Animoto directly for access to their stock library. 

Exporting

Animoto offers two HD resolutions: 720p and 1080p as well as two SD resolutions: 360p and 480p.

Video Formats

Just launched their new square 1:1 format! They only have one other, it’s a landscape format with a 16:9 ratio.

Customization

They have 60 templates for you to choose from for all occasions, ranging from content teasers, mini photography sessions, to recipes, saving the date & remarking ads for YouTube. They do allow you to edit your font, colors, and sections.

 

Pricing Plans

The Business Plan is priced at $408 a year. For an online video maker to charge $400 for a service that has no library stock, license to resell, and one 30 minute consultation is rather steep.

However, Animoto does provide original templates, “memory styles” and unlimited custom colors. They also allow you to share your video through all mainstream social media, plus HubSpot, Vimeo, Wikipedia, and many more.

Animoto is a great product but has limited video formats, lack of HD resolution and quite a high pricing.

You can even download your project to your computer, but 1080p is reserved for exporting to social media websites only. Because of pricing, lack of HD resolution, and limited video formats, we’ve placed Animoto as #4.

#6 Flyr

If you’re looking for flashy template ideas and social media inspiration, Flyr is perfect for you and your brand. If your company or agency is interested in aesthetics and appealing to a millennial point of view, Flyr could also be the perfect online video maker.

Ease of Use

Flyr is simple to use. Simply sign up, select a style from their templates page, replace text with the desired message, and perhaps adjust the background video if it doesn’t fit, and voila! Simple and basic.

Stock Library

Flyr claims to have “millions” of HD videos available to use as part of their stock library. You can see a sneak peek below, as free trial users are limited to one singular download of a video they like.

Exporting

You can choose to export your video in 1080p SD or HD, in different ratios (video formats). They allow you to download it to your computer if you are a paying customer.

Video Formats

Landscape, Square, and Portrait are available video formats/ratios for Flyr, pictured above. It is unclear if they plan on updating or adding more.

Customization

Pricing Plans

Flyr’s pricing plans are a little out there (compared to other websites to edit videos), especially with no concrete customization other than text and background. They are assuming their ready-made templates are formatted for every situation. We believe Annual Pro is the way to go, and if you need a one-on-one tutorial, submit a help desk ticket! It isn’t worth the extra 132 videos and tutorial. This is why we’ve ranked Flyr as #5.

#7 Kizoa

Despite having a rather clunky aesthetic, Kizoa provides users with simple tools more sophisticated online video makers do not offer, like ratios and instant playback. The minor cons here is their access to premium assets, sophisticated fonts, and transitions.

Ease of Use

Kizoa actually helps you create your (basic) movie/video using a step-by-step guide with hard pop-up reminders if you ever get lost when changing tabs.

Stock Library

Kizoa gave me access to demo albums, which had a maximum of 15-20 photos, but their template selection was vast, albeit elementary and beginner in looks. The music provided was also a little on the odd side. We don’t think many professional agencies would want to use most of the offered free content, and would often need to rely on paying for premium tracks.

Exporting

Kizoa allows you to use a link, much like HippoVideo provides, to spread your video. However, you can also save it to your PC or Mac, send it via email, post it directly to Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. You can also embed it into a blog or burn it onto a DVD, which we believe is a feature that may seem ancient, but is fairly useful for personal use or clients seeking white label links/permissions.

Video Formats

Kizoa provides users with a wide variety of formats.

For a Landscape format, they offer these ratios:

• 16:9
• 3:2
• and 4:3

For Square formats, they offer the standard 1:1.

For Portrait, they have three ratios:

• 3:4
• 2:3
• and 9:16

Customization

Kizoa has hidden features and gems many other online video makers don’t even think to include. The font selection may be small, but surprisingly they aren’t an ancient curated list of font, they’re fairly updated. The color swatches could use some work. Kizoa also offers instant playback, but the website is a little slow and has a tendency to skip/lag if the video is over a minute long. (This is also perhaps a general disadvantage of browser video makers.)

Pricing Plans

Another thing Kizoa does very differently is their pricing plans. They are offering a “pay once” premium, but we believe it would be beneficial to wait a couple months until they roll out some new features/update their website before investing in $3o0 for a software as a service that looks quite elementary.

Kizoa might need some help with aesthetics and clunkiness.

Kizoa is a step in the right direction, they just need some help with aesthetics and clunkiness. We think they offer more options, varied templates, and a variety of exporting options, which is why they are placed at #6.

#11 Biteable

They call themselves the “World’s Simplest Video Maker.” So, let’s start there!

Ease of Use

Biteable’s sign up guide was easy enough to follow. They do ask for your reasoning and purpose of using their online video maker. We were prompted to a landing screen with 5 templates to choose from, or the option to “start from scratch” after completing their survey.

We created a video within 2-3 minutes, and it was simple to do. However, it felt as if customization was non-existent given the limited color swatches and lack of direction from Biteable. It would be helpful to businesses if they had pop-ups that give you a rundown of how to use their product.

Stock Library

Their stock library was very impressive, and we can break it down into a couple categories here.

Firstly, they have “Scene Categories” which are a type of fluffer for transitions between footage. They have an immense variety, pictured below. They range from clay animation to seasonal animations, to overlays of IT graphics. There is something for every occasion.

Secondly, they had another category for footage, which was split between basic & premium clips hosted by Shutterstock. This was only accessible to premium users.

Exporting

The available video formats they provided were few and far between, as they only allowed you to export to YouTube and Twitter. They do provide you with a link to share your project, but please note it includes two large watermarks on either side of the project.  This was what we created with Biteable. It took us approximately 2-3 minutes.

Video Formats

Based on their FAQ, they have no variation in video formats. This is a significant negative, as it means you must reformat your video yourself to fit the appropriate social guidelines and ratios when posting to Instagram, Facebook Covers, and more.

Customization

We commend Biteable for its vast selection in stock, but customization was lacking. We could only use 80 text characters on the screen per scene, color swatches provided were minimal, and we didn’t have the luxury of “instant playback” that many other video editors have. We were also prompted to upgrade if we wanted to download the video to our computers.

Pricing Plans

Biteable has two available plans, Free & Annual. With their Free subscription, you get HD TV quality videos that you can only publish to YouTube and Facebook, 1 GB of storage, 5 video projects a month, and two watermarks on either side of your project.

Their annual subscription includes unlimited videos, 85k stock videos, no logo or watermark, uploading your own footage, privacy controls, and the ability to download your videos to your computer for $267 a year.

Overall, Biteable has attractive aesthetics but limited customization options.

Biteable has attractive aesthetics, and a massive variety of premium and basic scene categories and footage to choose from. However, if you’re looking for a tool that will allow you to implement your original brand colors, we wouldn’t turn to Biteable. We also disliked having to upgrade just to upload my own footage and the lack of ratios/video formats make Biteable undesirable for ease of social media integration. Hence the placement on our list.

There are truly A LOT of great websites to edit videos out there. Each suggestion is tapered to and appeals to different audiences for particular reasons.
